Two Doctoral students 100% (one-year contract with the option of renewal) (m/w/d)

Kern- und Hauptaufgaben

  • Organize and participate in initiatives that contribute to building the profile of the Chair (e.g., workshops, speaker series, social media, student-organized events, legal practice)
  • Present papers at conferences, in Switzerland and/or internationally
  • Submit research results for publication in English-language peer-reviewed academic journals
  • Write a PhD thesis within 4 years that falls within the Law of International Peace and Security profile of the Chair of International Law. Subject areas include international criminal law, international law on the use of force, international humanitarian law, jus post bellum, transitional justice, and counter-terrorism. Empirical and interdisciplinary approaches are welcome!

Erwartete Kompetenzen / Profil

  • An above-average LLM degree in International Law or a comparable degree 
  • Highly proficient in written and spoken English 
  • Demonstrable interest in researching the Law of International Peace and Security (e.g., helping to edit a law journal, experience as a research assistant, completion of a research masters) 
  • Highly proactive, independent, goal-oriented, cooperative, and able to manage your time in a hybrid work environment 
  • Possess scientific integrity and will contribute to an open and diverse culture of excellence 
  • Interested in gaining teaching assistance and supervision experience in the field of public international law 
  • Possibly interested in helping to coach the International Criminal Court moot (optional). If so, please indicate this in your motivation letter 
  • Keen to conduct methodologically rigorous work
  • Willing to relocate to join a small but excellent team that pursues high quality teaching and research
